Upscale Athleisure

Not sure if it’s driven by working from home, my regular use of Citibike for transportation, or my love for sneakers, but all I want to wear right now (and forever, really) is athleisure wear. However, because I work in a client-service industry, I found a way to combine glorified sweatpants and professionalism. Lucky for you, I am here to share the secret. I call it… upscale athleisure. Below are a few of my favorite ways to dress up your loungewear:

Tip #1: Swap cotton for a dressier sweatsuit material
I’m partial to velvet or satin right now, but the options are endless.

Tip #2: Dress up the sneakers a bit
Leather, suede or even velvet elevate a look. Bonus points for non-white soles.

Tip #3: Throw on a satin bomber
A satin or embellished bomber is the dressier version of a track jacket, with all the comfort. I especially like this double-zip, patterened satin bomber.

Tip #4: Avoid too-casual tees
A basic t-shirt can look fresh and clean, just make sure it’s well-cut and a nicer
material than your standard athletic ones.  I really like Rag & Bone’s t-shirt material,
and can usually find it at discounted prices.
